Made to Move

A BIG Thanks to Dance for Parkinson’s Dancers!

Throughout the week, we’ve been posting graphics on our social media outlets advertising our involvement in Big Day of Giving.  We are especially thankful to our Dance for Parkinsons dancers who participated in the creation of these graphics by having a photo shoot with instructor Robin Carlson and letting us share with our community why they love this program.

Dance for Parkinson’s is a free program for people with Parkinson’s and their caregivers.  Participants take weekly dance classes for free with Pamela Trokanski and Robin Carlson.  Some costs of the program are covered by our partner the UC Davis Mondavi Center, but PTDT (a 501(c)3 non-profit) provides the classroom space which is rented from the Pamela Trokanski Dance Workshop (a separate, for-profit business) at a rate of about $75/hour.

How can you help?  Make a donation on May 4th, Big Day of Giving!  You’ll help ensure that this community program that provides health benefits as well as a community will continue to thrive!

Diversity Matters

by Louise Kellogg

I’ve been involved with PTDT off and on for more than a decade as an audience member and now on the board. Here’s why I give to support the Pamela Trokanski Dance Theatre:

Most dance companies are very narrow in thinking about who they put on stage; the choreographers typically want dancers with a very specific age and look.  As a result, most dancers’ careers are complete when they are very young, and most dance companies are not very diverse.

The Pamela Trokanski Dance Theatre is interested in exploring the entire range of human experience; Pamela celebrates the wisdom and grace that dancers accumulate through life with the affiliated Third Stage company, and she draws on the excitement of introducing new people to contemporary dance through the PTDT Apprentice Company. The Third Stage Company includes dancers up to their ninth decade of life, and the Apprentice Company includes dancers as young as 8. The graceful and compelling performances that result when these dancers perform with PTDT make Davis a unique venue for contemporary dance.

This year is bigger and better than ever.  PTDT joins 600 nonprofits from the Sacramento Region in a 24-hour giving marathon.  It’s our 3rd year and we’re very excited for some big changes.  What’s our favorite so far?  Donation scheduling!

That’s right!  You can schedule your donation.  So now you don’t have to remember to give on May 4th, do it now.  Just click the button below to go to Big Day of Giving Profile and schedule your gift.  Donations will process in the early hours of May 4th.  You’ll get a confirmation email when you schedule and a donation receipt on May 4th.  You can also edit your scheduled donation up until May 4th.  So schedule that donation now!

We know why you’ll schedule your donation.  It’s because you know us.  99% of our donors donate because they have been personally affected by our programs.  They have danced in the company at some point, they’ve been moved by a concert, they know a dancer, or they participate in our wellness programs like Second Wind and Dance for Parkinsons.  And we love that our donors know us so well.  Thank you!  So please schedule your gift today and tell a friend!
