About the Pamela Trokanski Dance Theatre:
The Pamela Trokanski Dance Theatre is a contemporary dance company based in Davis, California. Since its first concert in spring 1985, the PTDT has presented both fall and spring concerts each year, premiering new works and maintaining repertory since 1985 under the direction of Pamela Trokanski.
This 501c3, non-profit company, is committed to community outreach. In addition to producing the annual Davis Dance Project, PTDT funds free classes for senior citizens and, in partnership with the Mark Morris Dance Group and the Mondavi Center for the Performing Arts, free classes for people with Parkinson’s and their caregivers, Dance for Parkinsons.
PTDT is unique among dance companies. It has three divisions. The Dance Theater began in 1985 and is comprised of dancers with a significant amount of technical training in contemporary/modern, jazz, and ballet. The Apprentice Company began in 2009 as a way to train dancers with a goal of working towards the higher demands of technique and performance required by the main company. The Third Stage began in 1984 and is northern California’s only multigenerational dance company. Dancers range in age from 8 to 80+.
About the Director:
Pamela Trokanski has directed and choreographed the Pamela Trokanski Dance Theatre’s companies since 1984. She has a BA in dance and is committed to teaching dance across the curriculum. Her choreography is often inspired by the world outside of dance, drawing from other disciplines like psychology, physics, literature, and biology.
