As we expand our presence in the community, we are looking for additional board members who would bring their energy, skills, and a love of dance to our vision.
Robin Carlson joined the Board in January 2015. She danced as a member of PTDT in 1989-1993, 2000-2004, and 2006-2007. Robin was also a founder of Blueprint Dance Company, which produced three seasons of performances between 2003 and 2007 in Sacramento and Davis. Robin is currently the assistant for the Dance for Parkinson’s classes offered at PTDW. Professionally, Robin has been working in the natural sciences as a program manager for the Pacific States Marine Fisheries Commission since 2000, and is expanding her work as a natural sciences illustrator, focusing especially on hydrological and fisheries issues.
Elsa Ruiz-Duran Elsa currently oversees the administration of affordable health care enrollment programs. Previously, Elsa has held positions as legislative analyst, education grant manager, strategic planner, workforce and economic development manager, and operations manager of a global private equity investment portfolio.
A resident of Davis since 1994, Elsa has two children that are DHS grads and now reside in Brooklyn, NY. An immigrant from Colombia in 1984, Elsa holds a Library Science diploma from La Biblioteca Luis Angel Arango in Bogota, Colombia.
Jan Fiore (Board Secretary, 1994 to present) Jan was one of the founding board members, completing the 501(3)(c) paperwork for the PTDT’s nonprofit status. She now works as an administrative assistant at Symphony Financial Planning in Davis. She has over 10 years’ experience as a legal secretary, and prior to 1993, she was an undergraduate adviser in the Applied Behavioral Sciences Department of UC Davis. Currently, she maintains a part-time holistic health business offering Acupressure and Reiki sessions. She has studied dance and movement since 1971, and taught beginning yoga at the PTDW from 2002 – 2008. Her movement focus is now centered on tai chi and qi gong.
Louise Kellogg is a professor of Earth & Planetary Sciences at UC Davis and does research and teaching on geophysics and scientific visualization, including science-technology-arts collaborations. She began taking classes with Pamela around the turn of the millennium.
Myvanwy Morgan (Treasurer) has been a board member since Fall of 2010. She first met Pamela in high school as an enthusiastic budding stage technician and since that time has stage managed and designed lights for many PTDT concerts. Myv spends her working time managing the Pamela Trokanski Dance Workshop (PTDW) office, and she is on the stage crew at the Mondavi Center at UCD. While she doesn’t have a background in dance, she does thoroughly enjoy Pamela’s Earth Rhythms class at PTDW.
Michele Tobias has served on the PTDT Board of Directors since September 2012 and has danced with PTDT since 2009. Michele is both a scientist and artist. She has a PhD in geography and has worked in the fields of geospatial science and biogeography for over 10 years. With 20 years of experience in dance and fiber arts, she has recently added digital graphic design and cartographic design to her repertoire.
Pamela Trokanski (President) is the Founder, Director, and Choreographer of Pamela Trokanski Dance Theater, a professional contemporary dance company, and the Third Stage, a multigenerational contemporary dance company. She has been teaching, choreographing, and performing for over 30 years. She received her BA in Dance from Empire State College (New York) and holds a current California State Teaching Credential in Physical Education (including CLAD certification,) and teaches dance at Davis Senior High School for both the Physical Education and Fine Arts Departments. In her 29 years in Davis, she has received multiple Arts Contracts from the Davis Civic Arts Commission as well as grants from US Bank and Davis Waste Removal for her outreach programs for elementary school children. Her teaching experience includes the Dance for Parkinson’s program in collaboration with the Mondavi Center for the Performing Arts and the Mark Morris Dance Group and directing the Pamela Trokanski Dance Workshop, where she teaches with a faculty of nine other teachers. She has also written as a Dance Critic for the Davis Enterprise.
Lou Ziskind received a Masters of Arts in Teaching from Antioch University and served two years as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Colombia, South America. He worked for a number of years for international non-profit organizations covering such countries as Bangladesh, Haiti, Bolivia, Honduras, Guatemala and Ethiopia. He serves on several boards locatedin Davis, CA., currently volunteers for SCORE, a small business volunteer consulting organization and is a past president and active member of the Davis Sunset Rotary Club.
